Why ADAS Calibration Is Mandatory After Windshield Replacement

Modern vehicles rely on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to keep you safe. The forward-facing camera mounted on your windshield feeds real-time data to your vehicle computer to manage lane departures, pedestrian detection, and automatic braking.

When we replace a windshield, that camera is temporarily removed and reinstalled. Even a change smaller than a millimeter in camera angle can throw off target detection by several feet down the road. That is why vehicle manufacturers require a certified calibration before your vehicle returns to the road.

Our Workshop Setup

We do all calibrations in-house with same-day scheduling

At Reset Auto Glass, we don't cut corners on your safety. We've built a specialized workshop in Martinez to handle calibrations ourselves, and we keep things simple with easy vehicle transport and direct support whenever you need us.

In-house calibrations

We perform static target calibrations inside our Martinez shop. We use flat-level floors, precise distances, and laser target setups that match your car's exact factory guidelines.

Two Methods of Recalibration

Static vs. Dynamic ADAS Calibration

Different vehicle manufacturers mandate specific calibration procedures. Our shop is fully equipped to perform both processes.

In-Shop Procedure

Static Target Calibration

Static calibration takes place inside our specialized facility. We place OEM-specific target boards at precise distances, heights, and angles in front of your vehicle. Using laser measurement tools, we program the camera computer to align perfectly with the physical targets.

  • Controlled environment with level floor & precise lighting
  • Required by Honda, Toyota, Subaru, and European makes
  • Includes complete diagnostic scan & report
On-Road Procedure

Dynamic Road Calibration

Dynamic calibration is performed on the road using portable handheld diagnostic scan tools. Our certified technician drives the vehicle at specified speeds on well-marked roadways, allowing the camera system to self-calibrate by scanning real lane markers and roadside objects.

  • Driven test under real-world road conditions
  • Common for Ford, GM, Chrysler, and Hyundai models
  • Mobile-capable for convenient on-site setup

Our 4-Step ADAS Calibration Process

How we verify and certify your safety sensors step by step.

01

Pre-Scan Diagnostic

We plug into your vehicle OBD-II port to run a full system check, identifying any pre-existing trouble codes before work begins.

02

Precision Mounting

After the new windshield is installed, we mount the forward-facing camera into its factory bracket with clean optical clarity.

03

Target Alignment

We execute static target alignment or dynamic drive calibration according to your vehicle exact OEM requirements.

04

Post-Scan & Certify

We perform a final scan to verify zero fault codes remain and provide a printed safety certificate for your records.
